VT Supreme Court Uphold’s City’s Demolition Permit
On December 6 the VT Supreme Court ruled on the case to save the former Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception — and confirmed the City of Burlingon’s permit for demolition. While we are disappointed with the outcome, we appreciate the court’s consideration. We do not see any room for appeal at this time.
Nonetheless, this ruling does not automatically green-light the building’s demolition as it only applies to the municipal permit issued by the City of Burlington. The property owner must still satisfy other applicable city and state requirements, such as Act 250 (Vermont's land use & development law).
We will continue to monitor the situation and report on developments as they occur.
