Historic Preservation Committee
Last modified: April 1, 2010Historic Preservation Committee:
The Historic Preservation Committee enjoys presenting history and preservation to our residents and visitors in many different venues. Our programs include: Preservation Forums, Workshops, Annual Preservation Awards and Newsletter Articles
The Historic Preservation Committee also is in charge of highlighting endangered buildings in our “5 to Save” section of our Newsletter. The Preservation Forums are held in the spring and fall months of each year. Speakers give presentations on various topics concerning history and preservation, such as historic movies, historic building types, preservation planning, Burlington history, and appropriate restoration methods. This year we plan to provide a new aspect of our committee, Preservation Workshops. These workshops will be for homeowners, contractors, and preservation enthusiasts and be focused on national register, tax credits, easements and restoration methods. This ‘hands on’ approach will provide a new educational tool to the community that has not previously existed. The Preservation Committee is responsible for the nominations of the Annual Preservation Awards that commend good preservation projects to buildings in three categories; residential, commercial, and institutional. Also this year the Committee will highlight endangered buildings in our semi annual newsletter, The Sentinel.
